This site was chosen because it was half way between Oldenburg and Bremen two German cities we wished to see, in my case Oldenburg was for the second time as I visited it in the late 1990’s.

It is a site that is at the very heart of the local community, when we arrived the whole place was heaving with day trippers and campers enjoying a hot sunny day swimming, boating, fishing or just messing around in or on the lake.

Because the site is used by so many day trippers there is not only what looks like a decent restaurant, we didn’t try it, and a pretty well stocked shop there are several of what one describes himself as “Bier, Bratworst and muzak” stalls.

This all could be a recipe for disaster but it works. The camping area, despite its proximity to the lake and crowds is peaceful with flat spacious pitches, the one we picked happens to be one of the fully serviced pitches for which we were charged ACSI rate plus a €1.50 per night surcharge. Worth it not to have to worry about fresh water or grey water disposal.

There is a self service laundrette on site, we didn’t use it but if the quality of the other services provided is an indication it will be of high quality. Talking of high quality brings us to the toilet and shower facilities, as one camper said to me “. . . it’s like being in a five star hotel . . .” They have to be amongst the very best we have come across. They are modern , clean – in fact ultra clean – and everything you need is provided. In order to keep the facilities for the campers alone the site runs a card system. You are issued with a card that allows you into various camper areas and another that you can add credit to and then use to pay for washing machines etc,.

This is a pleasant site with good facilities but one to which we would only return when ACSI Campingcard was accepted otherwise it is very expensive. Bearing in mind the ACSI price of €19.00 (plus €1.50/day full service pitch supplement) the fourth day of our stay was a mind boggling €40.00. A good site but worth €40.00 per night – definitely not to us.
